A recent article in The New York Times, "Alumni Use Old School Ties to Find Work" (8/2/09), describes how universities are helping older alumni, particularly the unemployed, in their job searches.  Through their career centers, alumni offices or both, colleges are offering resume critiques, professional affinity networks, webinars, personal coaching, job listings and vast alumni databases.
